Vacation - Part 2 - sightseeing around Mt. Rushmore and their local hospital

The next trek on our vacation was to head about 10 hours from Omaha to Mt. Rushmore. Chris had learned about the presidents this last year in Kindergarten and with the election coming up, we thought it might be cool for him.

On the way across South Dakota, we stopped in Mitchell, SD to see the Mitchell Corn Palace -- they were in the process of replacing the corn on the outside. It's a pretty "corny" (pun intended) place, but they had the best popcorn balls I've ever had!!! MMMMMM

Here are a few pics from Rushmore:

We also drove past the Crazy Horse monument - it's not done yet and was fairly expensive, so we didn't stop, but drove by:

That evening (Tuesday), Chris ended up having an allergic reaction to a pastry (that was ordered without nuts, but ended up being filled with them). We were supposed to have gone to a Chuckwagon/Supper show, but ended up taking Chris to the Custer County hospital to be pumped full of steroids to get the swelling and hives down. Scott ended up staying the night with him there.

We did the alpine slides (both kids just LOVED them) and panned for gold in a gold mine that wasn't really profitable - Cranky old man Scott had fun with that one!!

On the last day, we headed south a bit to the hot springs and went swimming and had a BLAST!!!

On the way to Yankton, for our next "leg" of the journey, we stopped by Wall Drug. Here is a pic of Chris (unhappily) and Libby as well as a very weird and odd person made out of toliet paper that was hanging on the back of my door in the bathroom. I just "had" to take a picture (thus, you have to see it while reading my blog).

Except for the hospital stay, it was a really fun "leg" of the trip.

Stay tuned for Part 3 - Unbelievable relations, Carhenge and the "Big Crash"

I was just looking at your pictures again and got a laugh thinking your husband reminds me of Rupert with that tie dye shirt on!
